Vegan Plant-Based Food Restaurants in Liverpool
After a busy day wandering the city streets and ticking off my budget-friendly things to do in Liverpool list. You’ll find there's certainly no shortage of eateries for those of us who are vegan or following a plant-based diet. With Liverpool making sure to cater to everyone's taste buds while offering lots of cool independent places to dine.
Since leaving Birmingham and moving to a tiny island for a peaceful escape. Liverpool has now become my nearest UK city that I can get to easily on the ferry whenever I need some hustle and bustle and craving that dirty vegan food that many UK restaurants are so amazing at.
So, I’ve made it my mission to visit Merseyside often in search of some of the best vegan restaurants in Liverpool that serve delicious plant-based food and drinks.
I'll be adding more food places to eat on this list every time I visit a restaurant, café, or street food vendor that gets my taste of approval. So be sure to bookmark this list to keep up to date on my mission of eating at all the best vegan restaurants in Liverpool.
1. Down the Hatch

Located on Duke Street in an underground ‘bunker’ in the heart of the city you’ll discover Down the Hatch, also known as ‘Seitan’s basement’. This trendy eatery allows you to overindulge in classic junk food dishes like burgers and hotdogs with a delicious mouth-watering twist while sticking to your plant-based lifestyle.
Every flavoursome meal is created with meat-free alternatives, making it the perfect place for vegans and vegetarians or simply anyone that appreciates damn good food.
Popular with locals and tourists, Down The Hatch, is a hotspot for creative funky dishes and is renowned for its fun burger creations. If you’re an overeater like me when it comes to dirty vegan food.
You’ll love the generous food portions here making the menu indulgently affordable as you can get your chops around a fully stacked burger with loaded fries for £15 while dining in.
If you're in the city and are craving a burger, I'd recommend trying their bestselling ‘Satan Burger’ – a delicious seitan patty sandwiched between a crispy hash brown and zinger sauce on a vegan bun.
Or if you fancy eating what we had then feast your eyes on the Bratwurst sausage hot dog with salt and pepper fries and the ‘kebabish’ made with seitan donner in a flatbread topped with slaw, red pepper, hummus, and tzatziki.
2. Frost Burgers

If vegan burgers are your thing, you need to head to Wood Street to discover Frost Burgers. They serve up delicious plant-based meal deals to take out for under £15. Where you can choose from fully stacked beef, chicken, and bacon-free burgers priced from £4.45 to £8.75 and add-on skin-on French fries, a housemade sauce, and a drink for £3.75.
Created by Youtuber Monami Frost, Frost Burgers in Liverpool opened their take-out food hub in 2018 and has recently opened a dine-in restaurant in Manchester so that delicious 100% plant-based burgers can be enjoyed by all.
The grungy street art foodie place is open from lunch at midday until 10 pm on Friday and Saturday’s so that you can grab a burger and fries while out shopping in Liverpool or with friends on a night out in the city.
There are not just fries on the menu. You’ll also find tempting curly fries, onion rings, and frost bites for under £5. And if you’re craving something sweet, you can choose from their ultimate frosty shake’s menu for under £9 or a cookie or brownie for under £3.
I indulged in the scrumptious crispy chicken-free patty burger topped with cheese, honey-free mustard, lettuce, and tomato. But next time I have my eyes on their newest burger the ‘bacation’ with chicken, bacon, and crispy onions.
To conclude
These are the perfect independent foodie places to pop in and have a bite to eat at after a day exploring the city. I'll make sure to add more to the list on upcoming trips whenever I discover places that get a big thumbs up from me.
