Receiving jewellery from someone or treating yourself to a piece has always been a significant and cherished experience for many. Memorial keepsake jewellery is exceptional in people's hearts as it can encapsulate a treasure trove of cherished memories. I recently shared my profound appreciation for the sentimental value of jewellery in a post where I went behind the scenes at a jewellery maker to look at their work and the artistry involved.

In the contemporary landscape, there has been a growing awareness among jewellery enthusiasts about the ethical and environmental implications of mass-produced pieces. While they may offer affordability, their toll on the environment and the questionable sourcing of precious metals diminish their uniqueness and specialness.

Consequently, there has been a notable rise in the presence of independent jewellery designers who prioritise sustainability and ethics by using recycled gold and silver from pre-loved pieces to craft new, limited-batch creations, ensuring each piece is distinctive while remaining accessible to all.

In my journey, I've adorned myself with exquisite jewellery crafted by independent, sustainable brands. Here are some of the ethical jewellery brands I wholeheartedly recommend. They make women feel special and prioritise environmental kindness and ethical practices.

1. Daisy London

Daisy is a British jewellery brand brought to life in 2009 by Ruth Bewsey on London’s iconic Portobello Road. Over the years the brand has grown to cult status collaborating with the likes of Laura Whitmore, Ellie Goulding and currently blogger babe Estee Lalonde.

All of Daisy’s jewellery is handcrafted in London, Italy, and Thailand by trusted, family-owned factories using 100% recycled silver and 18ct gold plate. Sustainability is considered in every step of the supply chain from the factories they work with, product, packaging and the delivery couriers that are used to ensure their impact on the environment is positive.

In my order, I loved seeing that they are using plantable wildflower seed paper. Something that I hope brands everywhere introduce.

Daisy London is inspired by bohemian and contemporary jewellery design which suits me perfectly. The Daisy London rings I fell in love with instantly are the Daisy Crown Band Ring made with an 18ct Gold Plate and the Box and Open Curb Chain Ring Stack made of Sterling Silver. As you can see, they’re gorgeous and unique, wearing them feels special as they enhance my style without harming the environment in the process.

2. Ana Luisa

An ethical jewellery brand I’ve been loving for over two years now is Ana Luisa. I’ve featured the American independent in my Valentine’s Day and Christmas gift ideas posts as their gorgeous jewellery collection makes the perfect meaningful gift for someone special or a wonderful treat to yourself.

The carbon-neutral jewellery makers create luxury rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings for all occasions and everyday styles without the luxury mark-up. While using recycled materials whenever possible, possessing transparent business practices, and only manufacturing small-batch designs that are kind to the Earth.

I’ve had the pleasure to own three beautiful layering pendant necklaces and two delicate fine gold and silver pieces from Ana Luisa that always attract compliments whenever I wear them.

3. Influenstar

Created by Ruth Morris in 2020, Influenstar is one of the newest ethical jewellery brands with a ‘sparkly’ future. During the pandemic, Ruth wanted to help challenge the fast-fashion industry and encourage more people to shop sustainably by launching a collection of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings at purse-friendly prices.

Influenstar use recycled 925 silver, plated with gold to create everyday fashionable pieces presented in eco-friendly packaging. By choosing recycled jewellery you are skipping the harmful mining and refining processes of extracting new resources from the earth. Therefore, this creates less waste, cuts down on CO2 emissions and reduces water usage without compromising on style, durability, or sustainability.

The pieces I have the pleasure to wear are the ‘Crescent Moon Necklace’ (£30) and the ‘Pearl & CZ Layering Necklace’ (£35). Not only are they affordable and kinder to the environment, but they’re created by a small West Midlands based business, making the pieces extra special to me.

4. TwiceLoved

TwiceLoved, a DBA of Windsor Fine Jewelers, is a sustainable brand that buys and sells secondhand engagement rings. They are a consignment platform that encourages recycling rings to help reduce carbon emissions from diamond mining.

While many people go for modern custom-made jewelry, TwiceLoved offers timeless estate and vintage rings that are unique and stylish. They boast multiple certified GIA and AGS Gemologists and diamond laboratory equipment on-site. They also ensure that their pieces are authenticated through their in-house DiaScan S+ so buyers can be confident in their purchases.

Whether you're looking for an engagement ring or one to wear for style and fashion, TwiceLoved offers sustainable options that won't break the bank.
