Luxury 4 star hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia

In early October my partner and I were kindly invited by Jet2holidays to visit Croatia and experience the beauty of Dubrovnik at one of its newest and most stylish hotels.

Neither of us had ever been on holiday in Croatia before, so we were excited to soak up the Croatian sunshine, food, wine and its picturesque views, especially the medieval Old Town in Dubrovnik that’s used as a filming location for the backdrop of Game of Thrones, which I imagine whether you’re a hardcore GOT fan or not is a sole reason to visit.

To begin our 4-night package holiday with Jet2holidays in Croatia we left chilly Birmingham to get on one of their direct Jet2 flights to Dubrovnik. With our flight departing Birmingham Airport at 06:35 am and it only takes 3 hours to fly to Croatia, it meant that we were enjoying sunnier climates by 10:35 am since there’s only a 1-hour time difference to the UK.

If you’re an over-packer like me, who tries to squeeze their entire wardrobe into a suitcase then stresses out when it is overweight but only ends up wearing 10% of what you’ve taken. Then you’ll be pleased to know all Jet2holidays packages have 22kg of baggage included plus 10kg for carry-on.

Something else that makes flying with Jet2 a breeze, is that they’ll have a Jet2 representative and a transfer waiting for you at arrivals so that a minibus or coach can take you straight to the hotel to begin your ATOL protected holiday!

Stylish one-bedroom apartment with balcony

Our transfer arrived at Jet2holidays One Suite Hotel within 20 minutes and checking-in at reception was easy and straightforward. The newly built One Suite Hotel located within the Srebreno resort area opened in 2017 and has already won an International hospitality award for its stylish appearance and modern facilities.

For our short break, we made a One-bedroom apartment on the first floor our home. The open-plan Scandinavian inspired accommodation features a kitchen, living-dining area, balcony, bedroom, en-suite bathroom, with an additional toilet down the hallway as well as plenty of wardrobe and shelving neatly hidden within a block cupboard that acts as the centrepiece to close off areas of the open plan living space.

If you’ve seen photos of my home, you’ll know I love Scandi interior design, so this contemporary apartment with typical Scandinavian space-saving features was perfect in every way. Stylish colours of grey, black and white are used with a variety of wooden and metal surfaces and textured soft furnishings.

The dining-living area comes with a long length desk, sofabed, cosy chair, coffee table, flat-screen satellite TV and a variety of lighting including ambient low hanging lights above the dining table. While the kitchen has a fridge, all in one microwave & grill, cooking rings, kettle, plenty of cupboard space, plates, bowls, cutlery, towels and Fairtrade coffee and tea.

What my partner Gary and I loved about the apartments floor layout was that we could spend time together at the dining table or on the sofa in front of the TV. But when we wanted to watch our own thing he could stay in his favourite area which was the living room (conveniently located next to the kitchen where we stored the snacks!) while I could relax in the bedroom and watch the second TV, yet we were still able to see and talk each other. But once I wanted to sleep, I simply pulled the double-sided mirrored wall to close off the two rooms.

For bedtime, there’s also a bedroom door that can be locked with a key to shut off the apartments hallway access to make it feel snug and cosy. During the night and day we never heard a peep from other guests and the king-size bed was super comfortable with its organic sheets, so we really did have four peaceful nights sleep, even on the second night when there was a thunderstorm.

According to Gary, the place I spent the most time in the apartment was in its fantastic en-suite bathroom with its modern white tiles, draws of storage, soft white towels, flattering lighting, assortment of mirrors, deep bath, heated towel rail, hairdryer, rain shower and my favourite of all the luxurious full-size toiletries by the natural cosmetics brand Malin & Goetz.

Unsurprisingly guests love the vitamin-infused hand wash & cream, shampoo, conditioner and body wash & cream so much that it’s now available to buy at the hotel. Trying the products meant I did spend far too much time in the bathroom pampering and never ended up using the products I brought with me.

So much thought and attention to detail has been put into the One Suite Hotel, for example, the selection of books to read stacked on the kitchen shelf, and in the bathroom and in certain areas around the hotel there are Mr&Mrs fragrances and in the night if you go to the toilet there’s a gentle night light so that you don’t have to endure the full beam of lights when you’ve just woken up.

Hanging neatly in the hallway’s storage space were soft white gowns with slippers, a safety deposit box and extra pillows and blankets. An iron & ironing board can be requested to the room as well as a Playstation which somehow conveniently slipped my mind to tell Gary.

Each day our one-bedroom apartment was perfectly cleaned by housekeeping, they were very friendly and came in a team of three. The room also comes with air conditioning and a yoga matt so if you fancy finding your zen you can relax on the balcony or head up to the rooftop terrace.

At the swipe-in door to the rooftop terrace, there’s a basket of fresh towels to use and toilet facilities to save going back to the room. Upon entering we found four comfy sun loungers, with two on the upper deck and three on the lower deck plus the main attraction, a rooftop infinity pool with beautiful views of the mountains surrounding the Srebreno resort area.

Since the hotel is conveniently located next to the main road that leads to the Old Town, you’ll find that the views also overlook homes and a shopping centre below, yet with all the mountains and lush green trees, it didn’t distract us from enjoying a peaceful escape. Especially when there’s soothing music being played on the terrace.

With just 16 suites and 2 premium rooms One Suite Hotel is a relatively small hotel so we did find it peaceful with it not being overwhelmingly full of guests, so on the two separate occasions we spent time on the sundeck we were the only ones there, which thankfully made it a lot easier to take these photos.

Conveniently, there are plugs situated next to the sunbeds and there’s a button to request drinks. Although we didn’t experience it the freshwater pool does have various effects including whirlpools, geysers and water massage. Plus, reservations can be made to request the pool from 9 pm to midnight to enjoy drinks and snacks.

Views of the Srebreno Bay can just about be seen from the terrace since it’s only a five-minute walk away. On our first day, all we wanted to do was experience the hotel, its facilities and the local area. So, we spent the evening by the pool and that’s when we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset going down behind the mountains, giving the sky a dreamy purple hue. Making our first night in Croatia a memorable one.

Trendy continental buffet breakfast

The One Suite Hotel breakfast buffet is served every morning in the dining area near reception between 7 am and 11 pm. They serve up continental food but with a trendy modern twist with items such as chia seed bowls, freshly made pastries from its on-site Lokal restaurant, delicious homemade pancakes and flavoured granola bowls packed with healthy superfoods like flax seeds, dried cranberries and a variety of nuts and seeds.

We were pleased to see a few gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options as well as a great selection of dairy-free milk such as soya and oat. There were a few warm items covered but we mostly stuck to a stack of pancakes topped with Nutella and raspberries and a bowl of chocolate granola with a glass of freshly cold-pressed orange juice and Fairtrade coffee to fuel up for a day of exploring.

One Suite Hotel restaurant, bar and gym facilities

The hotels Lokal restaurant & bar serves hot meaty, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals made with fresh local seasonal fruits and vegetables and has an extensive drinks menu packed with cocktails, beer, spirits and wine.

Or there’s simply snacks and takeaway coffee to buy if you’re spending the day out sightseeing. To dine alfresco there are tables outside and plenty of deckchairs on the grass to sit and chill with a book.

As Gary and I go to the gym together three times a week we were pleased that the modern 4-star hotel has a gym so that we didn’t miss a session and feel guilty while we were away. Although we didn’t do our full workout, we felt better for making the effort, especially when we ate so many yummy carbs on the trip. The 24hr gym is hidden away in the basement next to the secure parking garage.

One Suite Hotel also has super-fast complimentary WIFi, annoyingly it’s so much faster than the internet I have at home, so updating my Instagram stories was effortless.

After looking through photos of me on the trip, something I wished I had used was the hair salon at the hotel. Since I have crazy windswept humid hair in every photo.

One Suite Hotel is conveniently located on a bus route, where bus number 10 can take you to Old Town, so that you can easily discover all the great things to do in Dubrovnik. The ride costs 18 Croatian Kuna (HRK) per person (approximately £2.08) one way and takes just fifteen minutes, it was about the fourth or fifth stop, but we knew when to get off as most people were getting off too. To save a little bit of money there is a return ticket, but we didn’t think to ask at the time.

During peak times the bus was over-capacity, so if you wanted to arrive in Dubrovnik in style then there is also a water taxi that goes to Old Town and picks up passengers at Srebreno bay, just a five minutes’ walk from the hotel. Prices are up-to 100 Kuna (approx. £11.61) for a round ticket and can take between 20 – 60 minutes depending on the route they take. As expected, Uber and other local taxi services are available too. During the day Uber prices were coming up as 70+ Kuna (approx. £8.13).

When making travel plans be sure to check with reception like we did they were very helpful. There is also a notice board and a folder with a list of fun excursions that can be booked.

Directly opposite the hotel is a modern shopping centre with a variety of clothing, beauty and food shops including a H&M and a supermarket called Konzum which is where we went to stock up on snacks.

As we made our way to Srebreno bay, we passed some great trendy fast food places. But for soaking up the views with your food than dine al fresco at the many bars and restaurants along Srebreno bay instead. On the evenings at sunset, the mountains have a stunning rustic orange hue which reflects beautifully off the crystal-clear waters, so it was lovely to watch walking along the pebbled beach.

On one side of the bay where the sunsets, there is a walking path and some rocks to step down for a closer look. While on the other side where all the restaurants are, if you follow the path, it takes you to some rustic buildings, a park, some lovely hidden bay areas and another restaurant surrounded by lots of trees. So, there you go a peek into our amazing Jet2holidays in Dubrovnik experience. We loved the Scandinavian inspired One Suite Hotel apartment so much that we still miss it now.

After reluctantly checking out of the hotel, our Jet2 transfer collected us in the morning from the bus stop outside and we made our way to the airport to sadly get back to reality. If you fancy a luxury escape like this, be sure to check out Jet2 flights departing Birmingham to have your own Jet2holidays experience.
