Malmaison Hotel food, beauty & cocktails event
It’s not every day you receive an invite from a luxury hotel offering you an evening of pampering, food and drink with your fellow Birmingham Bloggers, combing all your favourite things in one. Obviously, I jumped at the chance and accepted the RSVP instantly. The Malmaison next to the Mailbox is a hotel I’ve never visited before and have always read and heard such great reviews about, so I was looking forward to the ‘Shake it up’ event hosted by East Village PR, who always put on fabulous events around the city.
To start the evening, we all gathered together with a glass of fizz in the Work & Play bar area before the host took us into another room where there was a selection of brands from Malmaison’s Spa Birmingham all waiting to give out manicures, hair styling, makeup consultations and hand cocktails.
The first brand I went to was the on-demand beauty service, Blow Ltd who were there to give us all a styling session. You may have read about the five festival hair styles they created on me recently, so I couldn’t wait to get my hair done as I had been out all day rushing around so my hair was in need of some voluptuous curls to kick start the evening.
Next up was a one to one with the brand ESPA who can be found in Mal’s Le Petit Spa offering luxurious facials and many other beauty treatments at the hotel. We mixed a few lotions and potions together to create a hand cocktail, which left my hands smelling gorgeous all evening.
A chat with the girls from Cover FX makeup is where I headed next, they sprayed our arms with a beautiful glitter from one of their makeup fix sprays which left us shimmering all night. Cover FX are available in Harvey Nichols in the Mailbox and have recently launched in Selfridges. They focus on creating high quality foundation bases and primers that contain skin loving ingredients that helps to look after your skin while providing fantastic coverage. We were given some complimentary samples to take home too which I can’t wait to start using, all their skincare makeup is also vegan, bonus!
The girls from Mal’s Le Petit Spa were there giving out complimentary nail treatments using CND Shellac polishes. As I was far too busy stuffing my face with a plate full (or maybe three plates, sorry not sorry!) of food from the Malmaisons new summer menu, I skipped the nail pampering bit to pig out however all of the girl’s nails looked great, the polishes looked so glossy and there were a great selection of shades too.
Now onto the food! Malmaison put on an incredible spread of healthy dishes where we all tucked in and helped ourselves. There was so much to choose from, it all looked divine! I over indulged in the Summer Vegetable and Cherry Tomato Linguine with Poached Salmon Hollandaise and Crunch Thai salad. There was also a Summer Minestrone Soup, Smoked Mackerel Pate, Slow Roast Beef Brisket (everyone went nuts about this) and Chargrilled Chicken Breast. The food was delicious, I filled my plate up twice and had all three of the desserts too, how could I not? It would have been rude not to. The selection of desserts were warm summer pudding, banoffee cheesecake and fresh red berries and vanilla mascarpone.
After indulging in the beautiful selection of food, it was my turn to have a go at creating a cocktail. With the help from the friendly bar tender, I mixed up some juice, vodka, syrup and a whole lot of ice to create a yummy strawberry cocktail. I must admit shaking up the cocktail felt like a mini workout on my weak little arms, I totally admire the bar tenders having to shake up the cocktails all night.
After a lovely evening of being pampered and fed, we were then sent home with a goodie bag of mini ESPA, CND and Cover FX products. The taster evening was a great introduction to Malmaison’s fantastic summer menu and their wide range of spa treatment offerings.
