My First Visit To The Botanist
As paying guests my Birmingham blogger friend and I visited The Botanist for the first time. The Botanist is a relatively new addition to Birmingham's bustling culinary scene, with several other locations scattered throughout the UK in cities such as Leeds, Cardiff, Chester, Reading, Coventry, Newcastle, Sheffield and Manchester to name a few.
Our first impressions were overwhelmingly positive as the interior is stunning, with meticulous attention to detail in every corner that perfectly fit their botanical and rustic theme. We requested a table for two in the restaurant area, only to be told we'd have to wait an hour at the bar. This wasn't a problem, though, as we snagged some seats at the bar and ordered some cocktails while we enjoyed the live music – a guy singing with a guitar.
The cocktail menu was extensive and varied, with drinks such as blueberry and passion fruit martinis and passion fruit and basil crushes. Watching the bartender craft these intricate concoctions was an experience in itself, adding to the ambiance of the place. We were pleasantly surprised when we were called to our table after only 20 minutes at the bar and were shown to a table tucked away in a cosy corner on the other side.
The menu featured a selection of dishes to satisfy any craving, with options such as hanging kebabs in a variety of meats and a delicious chicken burger that arrived in a wooden box. Dessert was just as satisfying, with options such as a warm chocolate fudge cake and a strawberry and marshmallow kebab that the friendly waitress drenched in warm chocolate sauce. The marshmallows were perfectly gooey, and we couldn't help but rave about them for days afterward.
Overall, The Botanist is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for a lively atmosphere, creative cocktails, and scrumptious food and drink. A few weeks later I returned with a brand to do a photo shoot for a summer lookbook, which allowed me to take even more pictures of the interior when it was empty – an opportunity I couldn't pass up.
