The healthy green mushy thing

So avocado, that green mushy thing that has been spamming your Instagram feed for awhile now, is something I have just recently began to enjoy. I've tried it a couple of times in different ways and couldn't really understand what all the hype was about, but after seeing far too many avocado on toast snaps, I thought I would give the meal a try.

The mild flavoured green fruit has a variety of health benefits, they are a source of good fats and are full of antioxidants, they also help to reduce your cholesterol and contain mono-unsaturated fats which are good for the brain. A typical sized avocado can contain 160 calories and 20 essential vitamins and nutrients.

When your picking avocados, give them a little squeeze to see if its ripe. If you don't instantly love avocados, layer it on thin and then gradually add a thicker layer the more you have it, to get used to the taste. Drizzling some lemon and a pinch of sea salt can help too. An avocado goes a long way, so whenever I have it on two pieces of toast I only use half and wrap the other half up for the next day.

I enjoy avocado the most on granary bread, with a runny-yolked egg, tomatoes and a sprinkle of cress (simply for aesthetic purposes). I've noticed I stay fuller for longer, whenever I have this for breakfast, which is great so I don't snack before lunch. If you fancy it, a sprinkle of garlic powder or chilli flakes will help give it a kick.
