1. My Cookie Dough
Sian Victoria © - My Cookie Dough, Birmingham Bullring
If you find yourself doing a spot of shopping in Birmingham any time soon, stop off for a bite to eat at My Cookie Dough in the Bullring, find it located in a little concession stand in the centre heading towards the Selfridges side. Despite the small size of this dessert spot, its desserts aren’t anything short of incredible.
As the name might suggest, this foodie place specialises in cookie dough. With prices from £6, treat yourself to one of the classics, such as milk chocolate, triple chocolate, or even caramel and white chocolate brownie. Or, if you’re craving something more, see which one of the specials takes your fancy, with red velvet, Lotus Biscoff and Kinder Brownie among the dishes that may tempt you.
Visiting with a friend - or just happen to have a bigger appetite? Go all out with a stack, costing around £10 – enjoy layers of delicious cookie dough with your choice of ice cream. Serving dishes including a Biscoff blondie, Kinder and Nutella and cookies and cream, this place has it all.
All varieties of cookie dough contain gluten, milk and soy so sadly may not be suitable for some.
2. Hotel Chocolat Cafe

Although this venue might not immediately spring to mind when thinking of a dessert place to visit next time, you’re in the city, it’s certainly a place that you shouldn’t overlook. This luxury chain, known for its delectable chocolate and sweet treats, allows you to experience its indulgent temptations in select café locations throughout the UK - with one located on bustling Birmingham New Street.
Enjoy all the delicacies Hotel Chocolat is known for and more in one of their café locations. Choose whatever treat you’re craving the most, with most on the menu being available from an affordable £2.50. For more photos of what’s on the menu see my festive places to visit for vegans post.
Whether it’s a salted caramel brownie, chocolate shortbread, carrot cake or honey flapjack you fancy, there’s bound to be something on the menu for you. Enjoy your dessert alongside one of Hotel Chocolat’s carefully crafted drinks.
Keep things simple with a classic hot chocolate or go all out with a vanilla white or even chilli chocolate. Anyone can indulge in the café’s luxuries, with Hotel Chocolat having several menu options for vegans.
If you find yourself visiting Birmingham and passing through New Street, why not take a break from your day and sit down in a Hotel Chocolat Café and satisfy your cravings? They always have delicious seasonal options pop up on the menu so it’s always worth the visit.
3. Dolce Desserts

Dolce Desserts sits in the heart of Birmingham’s city centre on Corporation Street near BCU and many other universities. This place is a haven of all things sweet and delicious. The shop specialises in all kinds of dessert delicacies, from cookie dough, crepes and pancakes to sundaes, waffles and milkshakes, there’s sure to be something on their profound menu that will tickle your taste buds.
If you’re stuck as to what to choose with so many options up for grabs, why not try out one of Dolce Desserts’ infamous waffles? Enjoy a classic American waffle or treat yourself to an irresistible Belgian Liége waffle and customise your dish to your liking. Whether you fancy a Nutella topping, fresh strawberries, sliced banana or lotus biscuit, the menu caters for whatever you’re craving.
Enjoy these delicious treats at reasonable prices, with everything on the menu being available for under £10, and most dishes costing around £7. The only downside is this place might not be suitable for those with certain dairy intolerances or vegans, as the menu, unfortunately, doesn’t cater for these requirements. Which is why I sadly can’t visit anymore.
4. Eis Cafe

Just outside of Birmingham’s city centre on Coventry Road and Ladypool Road is Eis Café, so it’s a lot further afield to venture out but should certainly be considered. Serving up an oasis of heavenly sweet treats, one trip to this café will have you hooked.
This friendly cafe has a warm atmosphere and welcomes you inside to peruse its array of delicious bakes. Perhaps its most iconic servings are their ‘Locoshakes’ – which is more than just a milkshake, these unique and wonderful drinks are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth, whether it’s a Nutella salted caramel milkshake you want, or a monster oreo shake.
Try another one of their creative desserts, such as the Pizookie, a crazy cookie that allows you to enjoy all your favourites in one. Sit down to a smores pizookie, or even a peanutella brookie. Or an anything-but-ordinary waffle concoction.
Although Eis Café is a perfect spot to visit for those who have a big, sweet tooth, you can enjoy this friendly neighbourhood café for savoury meals and drinks too. It’s also a coffee shop where you can enjoy a specialised tea blend, including lemon and ginger tea and Arabic spices honey tea, or even a smoothie.
With prices ranging from £3.00 to £6.00 for drinks and up to £8.90 for desserts, why not visit this café next time you’re venturing outside the city and try out these wacky delicacies for yourself?
5. Pieminister
Sian Victoria © - Desserts at Pieminister, Birmingham
Although this restaurant isn’t considered a dessert place, its puddings are worth a visit. Pieminister sits in the city centre on Waterloo Street near Victoria Square, and if you’re not visiting to try out one of their award-winning handcrafted pie dishes, don’t pass up their desserts. If you are tempted by their pies, you can have a peek at them in my top-rated brunch places in Birmingham post.
Serving up yummy ice cream sundaes, delicious milkshakes and hot puddings, there’s no better way to get a sugar fix. For an affordable £5, these epic ice cream sundaes are simply irresistible, with a ‘mud pie’ being perfect for the chocolate obsessed, and a ‘cherry pie’ sundae if you’re fancying a vanilla dessert.
And there’s even a dessert for you if you’re vegan – their ‘gold digger’ plant-based dessert was a favourite of mine, but it’s no longer on the menu. Alternatively, their chocolate and raspberry milkshakes - or salted caramel oat shakes – are scrumptious sweets for you to sit down and enjoy.
There are even some hot desserts for you to try out, including a sticky toffee pudding or hot chocolate pudding. Although this isn’t a dedicated dessert shop, Pieminister’s desserts are good enough for you to go ahead and try out next time you get a craving for something sweet, especially as they make sure to cater for vegans, too!

8. Fuel Juice Bar

Although everything on this list may have tickled your taste buds and have you craving something sweet and delicious smothered in chocolate and all the toppings. But not everything sweet has to have a calorie overload and come in the form of cookies and cakes. Sweet things can be healthy too and come in drink form.
The Fuel Juice Bar is situated in the city centre in Birmingham’s Bullring and Grand Central and combines delicious fruit and veg concoctions without the unhealthy consequences.
So, if you fancy a flavourful smoothie that counts towards your five a day. A delicious blend of fresh fruits can be enjoyed for a moderate £4.30 and consumed on the go. Perfect if you’re having a sugar crash or need a quick pick-me-up to get you energised for the day ahead.
9. The Shake Lab
Sian Victoria © - The Shake Lab, Icecream shakes & Crepes, Bullring Birmingham
Located in the Bullring, The Shake Lab specialises in – as you may have guessed– creating delicious milkshakes that will leave you wanting to come back for more. Plus, they do delicious warm crepes stuffed with tempting treats such as crushed Ferrero Rocher and drizzled with Nutella like this one.
All priced around £6, these milkshakes use a carefully crafted recipe to make sure you get to satisfy the sweet craving you have. Keep things simple with a classic chocolate or strawberry shake, or try out the popular Kinder Bueno, Oreo or Ferrero Rocher shake. There are also shakes infused with Daim bar, Smarties, Aero mint, and Curly Wurly’s.
There are so many delicious, sweet shakes in a variety of concoctions for you to enjoy at this popular dessert place in Birmingham. So, check out their decorated menu and see what takes your fancy. As expected, sadly milk-free options don’t exist here. So may not be ideal for some.
10. Medicine Bakery
Sian Victoria © - Medicine Bakery, Birmingham
You might accidentally miss this incredible food and drink spot if you aren’t careful – located right in the city centre. This bakery and café is inconspicuously situated on Birmingham New Street steps away from Victoria Square as well as at the Mailbox and it couldn’t be more impressive. It’s also home to one of the best independent coffee places in Birmingham.
Step inside and take in the unique, totally modern décor, with an expansive open space, hanging plants and paintings giving this bakery a trendy yet vintage feel. The menu serves a variety of delicious, classic café staples including toasties, brioche and salads, while the bakery will tempt you to mouth-watering, delectable desserts. My most recent order to go here was a latte made with oat milk and a shortcrust style double chocolate chip cookie for £6.95.
With a variety of freshly baked desserts, treat yourself to whatever you’re fancying. From artisan bread and pastries to cakes, brownies and even wacky concoctions such as cronuts, there’s a sweet treat for everyone.
Head on over to this one of many Instagrammable food places in Birmingham and sit down to a delectable dessert that will leave you wanting to head back for more. It’s understandable why people often queue out of the door in the morning for their fresh sweet bakes.
11. Little Dessert Shop
Sian Victoria © - Little Dessert Shop, Birmingham Bullring
This iconic Little Dessert Shop chain is a favourite amongst many, with several locations within Birmingham, including Kings Heath, Hogehill and the Bullring.
There are so many incredible offerings on their seemingly endless menu, making sure you’ll be able to satisfy whatever sugar fix you have. From waffles, crepes, pancakes and cookie dough to classic patisserie bakes, sundaes and gelato, this chain dessert place has it all. Almost every dessert on the menu is available for under £10, allowing you to indulge to your heart’s content.
If you’re visiting Little Dessert Shop with a friend, you can partake in some of their sharing deals. Try out a sharing platter, made up of 8 signature waffle slices and pancakes served up with irresistible dips and fruit for £19.95, or a £7.25 chocolate brownie explosion, perfect for those who are chocolate obsessed. Or try something new, with tempting dishes such as a pink rose cake, Kinder cake, or a Lotus Biscoff cake.
As well as offering a multitude of mouth-watering sweet treats and sharing options, Little Dessert Shop also ensures those of us who are vegan are catered for. Enjoy vegan cookie dough, pancakes and sundaes that are just as delicious as their traditional treats. If you haven’t had a chance to try out any of this cafe’s sweet treats yet, make sure you pay a visit as soon as you can.
The only disappointing thing is for example the vegan chocolate cookie dough is £8.95 whereas the milk chocolate cookie dough is £7.50. Plus, the dairy dessert is bigger and thicker than the plant-based alternative that comes in a much smaller skillet and the dough is a lot thinner. So, paying more for less sucks.
To conclude
There we have it – a list of some of Birmingham’s best dessert places for you to visit next time you’re desperately in need of a sugar fix. Whether it’s just a classic milkshake or sundae you’re after, or you want to go all out with a crazy brownie concoction, giant cookie or a freakshake, there’s something on this list for you. Let me know what’s got your appetite stirring the most.
