Birmingham's Best Bottomless Restaurants to Eat Vegan Food

Having an extra hour in bed so that I can go out to meet friends for a liquid brunch is one of the many highlights of my weekend. As well as grabbing a quick brunch during a busy weekday, if I’ve not had time to make breakfast.

Birmingham has so many great chains and independents to visit to indulge in a spot of brunch. In the city centre, you’ll find everything from bottomless buffets, set menus, to pay by the weight, brunches to take-out, ones displayed in birdcages and ones that come with unlimited cocktails.

Whatever you fancy, you’re bound to find the perfect brunch from my list of recommended venues that serve up delicious vegan and vegetarian meals.

1. Kanteen - Custard factory

Sian Victoria © - Scrambled tofu & protein porridge brunch

Kanteen tucked away in the creative quarter of the Custard Factory in Digbeth focuses on healthy eating with their brunch menu consisting of fruit & grains, sourdough toast, baked eggs, muffins & filled croissants and a signature range that comes with bottomless coffee every Monday to Thursday between 8 am–10.30 am.

A lot of their meals can be made vegan, so I swap the ‘Kanteen BLT Paleo’ (£7.95) for smoked tofu served with fresh roasted heritage tomatoes, wilted kale, mushrooms and avocado wedges. Their creamy ‘Protein porridge’ (£4.00) is a personal favourite too made with oat milk (+ £1), a drizzle of peanut butter and a dollop of strawberry jam.

2. Wayland’s yard - Bull Street

Wayland’s Yard located on Bull Street is relatively new and has certainly made its mark on the city's growing speciality independent coffee in Birmingham scene.

Besides the extensive hot drink’s menu and instagrammable industrial style interiors, another reason to visit is to check out their range of breakfast, brunch and street food mains.

My brunch of choice at Wayland’s Yard must be the ‘Vegan brunch’ (£8.50) featuring crispy sweet potato balls, smashed avocado, spinach, house smokey beans, griddled mushrooms and sourdough toast making it a fulfilling dish to set you up for the day.

3. 200 Degrees - Colmore Row

The venues warm rustic interiors, low-hanging lights and bare brick walls make it a cosy place to meet with friends for coffee and food during a work break.

Natural Bar & Kitchen is a plant-based venue that’s made plenty of appearances on this blog and is my ultimate go-to for organic vegan food. It’s located in the Orion Building on Suffolk Street Queensway around the corner from Birmingham New Street so is in a perfect central location to pop in for a delicious feast without the guilt.

With a Vegan à la carte menu and a buffet dining experience where you can pay for your meal by the weight your bound to love this independent that regularly hosts live entertainment. Our plates of food are just a small preview of what you can expect to get at the buffet bar, and it changes regularly to account for fresh seasonal ingredients.

I’ve previously enjoyed a vegan three-course Christmas menu at Natural Bar & Kitchen and was blown away by its uniqueness and deliciousness. This eatery is one of the many great independent restaurants in Birmingham to experience.

11. Leon

Sian Victoria © - Leon hot pox

A naturally fast-food restaurant I’ve always visited after my morning commute to the city, especially while on way to university lecturers is the popular Mediterranean-inspired eatery Leon. Located in Grand Central at New Street Station the foodie place is open from 6.30 am – 10 pm every day except for Sundays when it opens at 9 am.

It’s the place to go if you are seeking reliable, health-conscious food to dine in or take out. There’s plenty on the menu to suit your late morning cravings, such as probiotic yoghurt pots, sourdough toast, organic porridge, sourdough muffins, breakfast boxes, salads, and burgers, hot boxes, and grilled wraps. All are reasonably priced for the quality meals that are made fresh upon ordering.

My personal favourites are the breakfast meal deal, I have the vegan sausage muffin with an oat milk latte for just £4.89. Or if I’m craving a hot box, I’ll have the ‘Moroccan Me*tballs’ for £6.49 which has Moroccan-style tomato sauce, brown rice, toasted seeds, and garlic aioli. Sometimes if I’m feeling super hungry (or greedy) I’ll upgrade to the meal deal where you can add either baked regular fries or slaw with a drink for £3.29.

Talking of fries, indulging in the Leon ‘Vegan cheezy loaded fries’ for £3.49 is a must.

12. The Stable

Sian Victoria © - The Stable pizza

A popular pizza restaurant in the heart of the city that’s a place to consider for Brunchin’ is The Stable, located a short walk from New Street station on John Bright Street. The independent Birmingham place uses organic grains from a local countryside mill to make the perfect hand-stretched sourdough bases.

Open 11.30 am to 11 pm every day of the week it is a popular venue to visit to indulge in pizza. Especially during brunch hours when you can enjoy a pizza, pudding, and bottomless drinks for £25. Tables are reserved for 90 minutes and served up until 3.30 pm.

There are four plant-based pizzas to choose from, such as the ‘Proper Margherita’ which can be made vegan or vegetarian, and the ‘Build Me up Butternut’ consisting of tomatoes, and plant-based mozzarella, black olives, rocket, pine nuts, garlic oil and fresh basil. There’s also the ‘Goat’s Cheese & Roasted Squash’ served with spinach, rocket, pickled red cabbage, roasted pumpkin seeds, basil and mustard dressing and my favourite of them all the ‘Porkless Pepperoni’ with jackfruit pepperoni, and vegan mozzarella.

Thankfully when it comes to pudding, there’s not a sorbet in sight. Instead, it’s a dessert that will forever be my first choice, a ‘Vegan Chocolate Brownie’ made with dairy-free vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce.

13. Tortilla

Sian Victoria © - Tortilla burrito

If you are craving a Mexican food restaurant in Birmingham with a splash of Californian style, then Tortilla is the place to go for fresh quality fast food with the option of dining in or taking out. With two locations to choose from in the city centre, you won’t have far to go to grab a burrito or a few tasty tacos.

You’ll find Tortilla on the top floor of Grand Central or at their newest location on New Street opposite Victoria Square. Open from 11 am – 9 pm every day of the week, it’s a reliable foodie place to go to satisfy your tastebuds and fuel you for the day ahead.

On the menu, you can choose your base, either a wrap for a burrito, a naked burrito, soft taco shells, a quesadilla, or nachos to top with your choice of meat and veg. A large burrito stuffed with rice, beans, vegetables, and vegan chilli is always my first choice. The chilli is made from medium spiced tempeh, and I’ll layer it with smashed avocado and salsa.

If you fancy a bag of crunchy chips to dip in guacamole too then you can upgrade to a meal deal and pick from a selection of soft drinks. And of course, is a visit to a Mexican restaurant complete without sipping on a Margarita? You can either enjoy a glass for one or order a jug if you’re brunchin’ with friends.

To grab a quick brunch on the go, Pret is a great option as you won’t have far to walk to get one, since they can be found all over Birmingham City Centre. Find them located within Selfridges, Grand Central, on Colmore Row, Newhall Street, Brindley Place, and bustling New Street. So, if you’re in a rush Pret is the place to go to settle hunger cravings wherever you are in the city.

Pret is one of the many chain coffee shops in Birmingham that I visit before commuting. Many years ago, I’d often grab a ‘Pret's Veggie Roll’ before university, thankfully now I’m vegan they have a lot more plant-based options to choose from but only if you are quick and there early enough to get them before they’re gone.

For vegans, there is a ‘Smashed Avocado’ and a ‘Smoky Carrot & Falafel’ sandwich, a ‘Very Berry Croissant’, and an ‘Avo, Olive & Toms Baguette’. As well as my favourites, the ‘Humous & Falafel Mezze Salad’, ‘Vegan Chilli Enchilada’ and ‘Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap’ which I seem to only get my hands on when I’m at an Airport Pret.

You’ll also be pleased to know their ‘Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter Cookie’ is vegan too, their delicious especially if they are still warm.

For beach shack vibes and Caribbean eating and drinking, Turtle Bay in Birmingham is the place to go for authentic world flavours. Located steps away from The Stable, on John Bright Street in between The Mailbox and Grand Central. Turtle Bay is in a convenient central location, making it a popular place to visit. To avoid disappointment, I’d recommend making a booking.

At lunch, in between lecturers my friend and I would often visit for a few checky Mojitos during 2 for 1 during Happy Hour and soaked up the drinks with a delicious meal. Open from 10 am each day of the week until late, it’s a great option for enjoying bottomless brunch.

There’s also a ‘Sweetcorn Roti Roll’, the ‘Big Vegan Grill Down’ and the ‘Vegan Yardbird’ featuring a soft bara roti stack, a chicken-free patty, garnished with avocado, maple syrup, watermelon, and hot sauce.

An iconic spot amongst locals, The Botanist in Birmingham offers up an expansive menu of tempting gastropub dishes, as well as an array of weird and wonderful cocktail concoctions.

As soon as you step inside, you’ll be in awe of the unique décor. A far cry from the bustling streets of the urban metropolis. The Botanist features intriguing wood furnishings, fascinating artwork as well as eye-catching chandeliers. The interior design is so aesthetically pleasing that I filmed a botanical outfit video with a brand here back in 2015.

In terms of the food and drink on offer, the brunch menu has two delicious vegan options such as smashed avocado on sourdough toast and the Bircher Muesli bursting with fresh fruits sitting amongst papaya and buckwheat granola, blueberry jam and almond milk.
