As well as boasting excellent business facilities, this Wheelchair accessible hotel doesn’t fall short in its onsite leisure facilities, either.

After a long day travelling around the region, you might want to come back to the hotel and unwind. Take a dip in the hotel’s large, indoor heated swimming pool (10 m / 32.808 ft), before relaxing in the accompanying hot tub.

If swimming isn’t your thing, you might want to look at the fitness centre. This fully equipped gym is complete with a variety of equipment, ensuring you can exercise to your heart’s content before heading back to your room.

Happen to be hungry? Why not head down to the lobby and visit the hotel’s onsite restaurant for some delicious food and drink? Sit down at a table amongst the intriguing décor and see what dishes on the menu tempt your taste buds.

The hotels restaurant makes sure to cater to a variety of cravings, offering local and international dishes, as well as a hot and cold fusion buffet. Treat yourself to any food you desire from the menu and have as many plates as you wish, before heading back up to your room.

We indulged in a plate of vegetable curry, with rice, poppadom and naan bread and a healthy bowl of Malaysian lime and coconut salad and a sweet bowl of mixed fruits for dessert. Along with a fruity gin to end a lovely evening of local entertainment provided at the hotel for the event.

Visiting with a friend, or perhaps just want to treat yourself to something special? It might be worth considering trying out the hotel’s afternoon tea service during your stay.

Before you enjoy a spot of afternoon tea in the West Midlands, you’ll be in awe of the themed tearoom. Explore the history of the area through vintage-style design pieces, scattered across the room, as well as photographs of historical local landmarks and paintings to give you an insight into the historical places to visit in the West Midlands.

The three-tier afternoon tea menu consists of a savoury sandwich tower and classic British desserts, and most importantly delicious fruit scones with cream and jam. Accompanied by as many teas and coffees as you desire or a glass of champagne or prosecco if you fancy something sparkling.

One of my favourite things about the Mercure Birmingham West Hotel’s afternoon tea service was – aside from the beautifully themed tearoom – the adorable vintage-style teacups. When ordering tea, you’ll be able to enjoy it in these cute, retro cups.

We requested a vegan afternoon tea at short notice, and they were quick to accommodate us, but I recommend letting them know in advance if you do have dietary requirements to avoid disappointment.

During my overnight stay, I was in a standard room with a double bed. The contemporary room design has a stylish, retro touch, making the room unique and interesting. The wood furnishings are complimented by the earthy, green-coloured wall and cosy orange chair, alongside quirky design choices such as a metal black bedside lamp and industrial-themed feature walls to match - continuing to pay homage to the local heritage.

Sitting in the centre of the room is a huge, cosy double bed, complete with crisp white sheets and plush pillows. Lie down on the bed and you’ll see the flat-screen HD TV, perfect for letting you wind down for the night. Or, if you’re staying on business and not just for leisure, there’s a handy work desk for you to sit down at so you can be productive during your stay.

Stepping into the ensuite bathroom, the contemporary room design continues. Boasting a light-up, colossal mirror, white tiling, and a step-in shower. Giving you everything you need to freshen up come night or day.

Continental breakfast buffet

After a cosy night’s sleep in the double bed, we headed down for breakfast at the hotel.

Like its tasty selection of dishes for an evening, the breakfast selection at the restaurant is just as tempting. The continental breakfast buffet allows you to eat to your heart’s content and make sure you’re ready for your day of exploring the West Midlands.

The buffet means there are plenty of options for you no matter your dietary requirements – I enjoyed a deliciously filling plate of hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes, and beans, before snacking on some patisserie bits and fresh fruits.

To conclude

There we have it, the review of my stay at the Mercure Birmingham West Hotel. I’ve also stayed at the Mercure Telford Centre Hotel not too far away in the West Midlands too.
