5 Ways to Spread Festive Cheer this Christmas

As the nights draw in, Christmas ads are starting to be shown on TV. This marks the impending festive season. Christmas is a time of great joy and celebration. Often, spreading that joy is the best part of Christmastime.

There are several ways you can help to spread a sprinkle of festive cheer in the community. Here are five ideas to get you thinking.

1. Give to local and national charities

For many, Christmas is the perfect excuse for extravagance and overindulgence. However, it is always worth remembering that there are some out there who struggle in the festive season.

Seek out local charities and see how you can help. Some will be grateful for your time, so sign up for some volunteering handing out care packages or doing hospital visits.

If you are feeling creative, why not organise a donation drive? You could sort out a raffle, do carolling for change, or wrap presents for a donation.

For those short on time, donating on behalf of others is always welcome. Instead of physical presents, sponsor a guide dog or fund an education program in their name.

There are always national campaigns at Christmas that you can get involved with as well. The Big Give Christmas Challenge highlight challenges up and down the country for you to support. Any donations made are matched, doubling the amount raised.

2. Share the gift of time and experience

Sometimes it is hard to find the perfect physical present for someone. There’s always a relative who seems to have it all, or one who says they don’t need anything.

When inspiration is lacking, turn your thoughts to experiences or vouchers instead. Vouchers may seem impersonal, but you are actually ensuring that the recipient gets something they love. You could set them in a general direction, such as for a favourite restaurant or shop, or opt for a general voucher where multiple options are available.

Gifting experiences is always going to go down well. From sports car racing to animal feeding encounters, thinking outside the box will result in a once-in-a-lifetime present for your loved one.

3. Think sustainable and thoughtful gifting

Sustainable giving is a trend that is gaining traction year after year. Taking time to think about where your gift comes from and its environmental impact means every present is thought through carefully.

Second-hand markets are often home to some real treasures. It may take longer to find a real gem, but saving it from landfill will feel amazing. Charity shops are the same, with proceeds helping the local community – a win for everyone!

4. Create extra cheer at home and for friends

Adding festive flair at home or for friends’ homes can be the ultimate mood booster. Why not host a pre-Christmas wrap party? Get some drinks and festive treats in and have a chat as you wrap presents up before the big day.

For those who can’t make it or live far away, organise a Christmas flower delivery. Flowers are a beautiful addition to a home, whilst showing you miss them.
