Solihull's Authentic Italian Bars & Cafes for Romantic Dining

Are you craving a taste of authentic Italian cuisine in the West Midlands? Look no further than these gems in Solihull. As a resident, I have had the pleasure of exploring the culinary dining scene here, and I can assure you that Solihull has some of the best Italian restaurants around.

From cosy trattorias to upscale eateries, there is something for everyone's style and palate. As I take you on a foodie tour through the town's streets, be prepared to discover hidden gems serving up classic pasta dishes, wood-fired pizzas, and heavenly desserts with each bite bursting with the flavours of Italy.

So, if you're in Solihull and search of a delicious Italian meal, join me as I explore the diverse food scene of the West Midlands through its most exquisite Italian restaurants.

1. Emporio Artari

Emporio Artari, a top-rated Italian restaurant located within the Touchwood Shopping Centre, has quickly become my go-to spot for an Italian escape with fellow Birmingham bloggers. Its roots trace back to the Italian Alps in 1886, this elegant eatery brings a slice of Italy to Solihull with its Lucarelli-style cicchetti, perfect for sharing.

You’ll find that the arancini melts in the mouth with each bite, and the oven-baked lasagne is reminiscent of a cosy Italian home kitchen. But what truly sets this stylish dining spot apart is its Afternoon Tea - a delightful twist on the British classic with an indulgent Italian flair. It’s certainly a top contender for being one of the loveliest spots for afternoon tea in Birmingham, which I’d compared to another Italian gem I enjoy, Cucina Rustica in the Jewellery Quarter who also serve an Italian high tea.

The coffee, oh the coffee! Emporio Artari's passion for its brew is evident in each cup; a handcrafted tradition that's a testament to the rich, aromatic Italian coffee culture. The atmosphere is vibrant yet intimate, making it an ideal spot for both catch-ups with friends and solo indulgences.

Whether it's the stylish cocktails that draw you in or the promise of a Cinema & Theatre Menu - a steal at £20 for a 2-course meal with wine or Prosecco.

2. Carluccio's

Located on the High Street at Mell Square, Carluccio's is a contemporary, Italian café-deli chain that stands out for its stylish approach to traditional Italian fare, from sumptuous portions of pasta to handcrafted focaccia that sings of authenticity. It's the blend of modernity with old Italian cooking methods that truly attracts.

You’ve probably spotted this eatery with its signature white-wall exterior in cities across the UK as well as globally. If you’re anything like me, this go-to brunch place in the West Midlands is sure to lure you in with its vegan breakfast which features toasted ciabatta laden with a harmonious mix of smashed avocado, slow-roasted tomatoes, and red onion.

If not I’m sure you’ll be enticed by the appeal of their wood-fired pizzas, which showcases their handmade Italian pizza oven's prowess. The dedication of Carluccio's chefs, some of whom have been refining their craft for over two decades, is evident in each dish served.

You’ll find that most authentic family-run Italian restaurants have limited options for vegans, if at all any so despite wanting to support local this chain has a lot more options for you if you're following a plant-based lifestyle. For this reason, it’s probably the best option to go for from my list to avoid disappointment so you’ll have more than one option from each course to pick.

Their Veganesca Spaghetti is a personal favourite, weaving toasted mixed nuts and raisins for an added burst of flavour and texture. With options for takeaway and delivery, Carluccio's flexibility adds to its charm, ensuring that whether you're in the mood for a continental feast or a quick, delightful meal, your cravings will be served in true Italian style.

3. L’aragosta

Stepping into L'aragosta on Warwick Rd is like being warmly welcomed by a long-lost Italian family. This pleasant dining spot, renowned for its traditional and authentic menu, offers an extensive array of Italian dishes that cover the extent of Italy's rich cooking landscape. From the tender folds of perfectly cooked pasta to the succulent flavours of their meat and fish dishes, each creation is a celebration of Italian cuisine.

You’ll find that the highlight of your visit will be the sheer variety on offer, meaning you’re sure to please all your cravings. The menu, an indication of Italy's diverse food scene, features several dishes under each category - pasta, risotto, meat, fish, pizza, and calzone, ensuring every liking is catered to.

Although their vegan options are sparse and vegetarian dishes are few, the accommodating staff are more than happy to tailor dishes to meet dietary needs upon request. The absence of these options is a minor oversight in an otherwise flawless dining experience.

4. Limoncello Ristorante

Limoncello Ristorante on Stratford Road is a family-run gem that prides itself on its commitment to authentic Italian recipes, handed down through generations. Their head chef, originating from Bari, infuses every dish with a passion that is intense from the first bite.

The menu offers a culinary tour through Italy's diverse regions, with hand-stretched pizzas that claim a 48-hour fermentation process, showcasing the dedication to quality and taste. Not to be missed are the finest desserts in the West Midlands, including decadent White Chocolate and Bailey's Cheesecake, along with a homemade Tiramisu and a Nutella roll that will leave you dreaming of sightseeing in Italy while indulging in gelato under the Italian sunshine.

Despite their vegan options being limited, they do have a well-organised menu that ensures you know about each potential allergy in each dish which is always great to see. Those with no dietary requirements are in for a treat with plenty to choose from and a perfect wine menu.

5. Bottega Prosecco Bar

Recently, I picked Bottega Prosecco Bar located at Resorts World Birmingham for a belated Birthday treat for my mum. We were immediately welcomed and led to a table that presented a lovely view of the lake, enhanced by the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows. The initial sip of Gold Prosecco, bursting with fruity notes, set a celebratory tone for the afternoon.

Opting for a mix of starters, share plates, small plates, and large plates, my mom sampled everything while I had to be a little more selective. The ‘Bruschetta’ features; a delightful medley of pachino cherry tomatoes, taggiasca olive paste, and mozzarella. Each bite, paired with the exquisite Gold Prosecco, was a reminder of the craftsmanship and care that goes into Italian cooking.

Continuing our homage to Italian cuisine, the ‘Estiva’ pizzette, adorned with mozzarella, pachino cherry tomatoes, and fresh basil leaves, was a delicious light plate with a crisp texture. The ‘Gamberoni Piccanti’ was another standout dish my mum loved, presenting king prawns atop pugliese bread with a zesty kick of chilli and lemon.

The surprise of the afternoon came in the form of a creamy lemon sponge cake, beautifully decorated with strawberries and blueberries, presented to my mum. It was a gesture that added a sweet note to our celebration.
