1. See Well-Known Locations

Summer adventures in Europe are something special; there's just so much to explore! This amazing continent is filled with iconic landmarks that genuinely take your breath away. Here are some must-see spots that stand out in my mind.

Let’s start with Paris. This city is considered one of the most romantic destinations packed with elegant sights and attractions. You can’t miss the Eiffel Tower—it’s more than just an architectural landmark; it’s a testament to human creativity. Take a relaxing stroll along the Seine River, and you’ll catch sight of this beautiful structure from different perspectives. Each neighbourhood has its own unique personality that reflects the magic of the city.

Then there’s Rome, one of the best sightseeing destinations for history fans like myself. The Colosseum is right at the top of the to-do list. Walking through its ancient corridors gives you a tangible sense of the past, and you feel the energy of the gladiators who once fought there. It’s an experience that sticks with you long after you've left.

London also has its share of iconic sites. Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are classic British landmarks that can't be overlooked. As you cross Tower Bridge, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the city, letting you soak in London’s distinct character.

If you find yourself in Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate is a must-visit. It is a towering representation of the city's complicated past. The remnants of the Berlin Wall nearby offer powerful reflections on division and unity, allowing you to grasp how far the city has come.

In Athens, you have to see the Acropolis. Reaching the summit offers you astounding sights and fascinating stories from ancient Greek mythology. It’s a window into the past that brings the stones and ruins to life.

Barcelona is another stop worth considering, thanks to the incredible works of Antoni Gaudí. The Sagrada Família is absolutely something to behold. Visitors are frequently amazed at its gorgeous features due to its distinctive fusion of Gothic and Art Nouveau architecture styles.

Prague’s Old Town Square is perfect for a leisurely visit. The famous Astronomical Clock is a highlight; catching its hourly performance feels like stepping into a little piece of history that charms everyone who gathers to see it. 2. Sample Local Culinary Treats

If you love good food and drink as much as I do, Europe is a fantastic destination packed with delicious local dishes to try. Each country offers its distinctive flavours that make every meal a special occasion. Let’s kick things off in Italy, a place that knows how to celebrate food. You can’t go wrong with a plate of spaghetti carbonara—the creamy sauce paired with crispy pancetta is absolute perfection. And then there’s the pizza; biting into a slice of authentic Neapolitan pizza, fresh from a wood-fired oven, with its perfect crust and fresh toppings, is an experience you won’t forget.

Next, we’re off to France. The moment you step into a patisserie, you’re greeted by the irresistible scent of pastries. Treat yourself to a buttery croissant or a decadent éclair—it's like a little piece of heaven. And let's not ignore the incredible variety of French cheeses out there. Each type has its own story and character, making every bite a tiny adventure.

Then, there’s Spain, where the tapas culture is all about sharing and enjoying good company. Dishes like patatas bravas and jamón ibérico are bursting with flavour, especially when paired with a glass of Rioja or a refreshing cava.

Belgium also has its foodie highlights. You can’t miss moules-frites, which is a fantastic pairing of tender mussels with crispy fries. And if you have a sweet tooth, indulge in a Belgian chocolate truffle or a waffle piled high with whipped cream and strawberries—trust me, you won’t regret it.

Germany brings its hearty offerings, with bratwurst, tangy sauerkraut, and soft pretzels that are best enjoyed with a local brew. Greece offers a comforting moussaka, which combines aubergine, minced meat, and creamy béchamel, a dish I couldn’t resist when trying out food places in Paphos. Pair it with a glass of ouzo for an authentic taste of the Mediterranean.

One of the most enjoyable ways to explore European cuisine is by checking out local markets and street food stalls. You might find yourself enjoying a savoury crepe in Brittany or sampling the freshest seafood recipes along Portugal's stunning coastlines. Each meal tells a story and offers new discoveries that make dining out a memorable experience.

When the opportunity arises, grab your bags and let your palate guide you through this enchanting food scene. Every nook and cranny in Europe has a delicious flavour that is just waiting for you to taste it.

3. Experience Fun Cultural Events

There are some amazing festivals and carnivals that pop up all over Europe. These cultural events bring a host of unique experiences. Take the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, for example. It’s not just any arts festival—it’s the largest one in the world. The capital streets of Scotland are filled with theatre performances, stand-up comedy, and all sorts of creative acts happening at every turn. If you love the arts and want to absorb the energy of a historic city, this festival is a fantastic option.

Then there’s La Tomatina in Spain, which has a completely different vibe. Ripe tomatoes are being thrown at one another in the streets of Buñol during this wild celebration. It’s messy and a whole lot of fun—definitely a unique way to connect with local traditions. And for those who crave a little adrenaline, the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona is an experience you won't want to miss. Daring athletes and interested spectators from all over the world are drawn to this exciting tradition.

If music is your passion, the Glastonbury Festival in England should definitely be on your list. It’s known for its incredible lineup and lively atmosphere, making it a celebration of music, art, and togetherness. You are going to value the memories you make here for years to come. On the other hand, if you’re into electronic music, Tomorrowland in Belgium features top DJs and unforgettable performances that attract fans from all over.

Italy brings us the Venice Biennale, which celebrates contemporary art while you soak in the beauty of the city’s canals. If you enjoy good beer, Munich’s Oktoberfest is the place to be. It’s where you’ll enjoy donning traditional Bavarian attire, enjoying lively music, and indulging in hearty food and plenty of beer. It's a great way to experience Bavarian culture at its finest.

These festivals are more than just a good time; they provide a chance to experience Europe in a vivacious way. Every occasion presents a chance to engage with the continent's historical context. 5. Visit Historical Locations

Looking back on Europe's fascinating history, I'm often reminded of the remarkable stories told through its historical landmarks. Each site is significant, offering a glimpse into the past that enriches our understanding of this diverse continent.

Take Italy, for instance. If you find yourself in Rome, the Roman Forum is definitely worth your time. Walking through its ancient ruins makes you feel like you’re stepping into a different era. The remnants of temples and basilicas evoke a time when this area was the centre of public life in the Roman Empire.

And then there’s Greece. Visiting Delphi feels like stepping into mythology itself. At the Temple of Apollo, you can’t help but be impressed by the magnificence of the ancient theatre. It’s a space that showcases the ingenuity of classical civilisation. After experiencing the wonders of Delphi, consider visiting Paleros, where the stunning views of the Ionian Sea from the idylic harbour create a perfect backdrop for relaxation.

If your travels lead you north to England, don’t miss the Tower of London. Its history as a royal stronghold that later became a notorious prison tells us so much about power and intrigue in British history. Over in France, the Palace of Versailles is a sight to behold. The lavish rooms and sprawling gardens reflect the opulence of royal life just before the tumult of revolution changed everything.

Germany's Neuschwanstein Castle looks like it's come straight out of a fairy tale. Set high on a hill, it reflects the romantic vibe of Bavarian history. In contrast, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial in Poland serves as a powerful reminder of the darker chapters of World War II, compelling us to reflect on our shared humanity.

Eastern Europe has its own one and only gems. Tallinn in Estonia, with its medieval walls and otherworldly cobblestones, takes you back to a different time. Meanwhile, Prague attracts visitors with the stunning Charles Bridge, which is lined with baroque statues and offers wonderful city views as it connects the Old Town to the impressive Prague Castle. In addition, Romania is a favourite of mine, with the medieval fascination of Transylvania being a personal highlight. It is dotted with amazing castles and the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains.
