What’s on in Birmingham
During the colder months, all I want to do is hibernate at home under a blanket and watch Netflix with my dog. But now Spring has arrived all I want to do is be out and about enjoying the warmer weather and lighter evenings.
With Birmingham being the UK’s second city there is always something fun and new to do, whether that be a new restaurant opening or a venue for immersive experiences there’s always plenty going on.
Spring hasn’t been here for long and I’ve already had some great days out in the city, so whenever I experience something new this season, I’ll be adding it to the list so that you don’t miss out on thing’s to do in Birmingham.
1. Join Byrons cinema club

Until I went to Byron’s B-Rex Movie Nights recently, I had never watched a movie in a restaurant before while indulging on one of Birmingham's tastiest burgers. So, I was excited to have been invited to Byron located on New Street to experience an evening of food and film to celebrate its recently launched dinosaur themed B-Rex menu.
We indulged on the V-Rex (veggie) burgers with a side of super-large onion rings. Plus, we even got to make our own Freak-shake sprinkled with Oreos, chocolate and sweets! It's been years since I've seen the first Jurassic Park, so it was a fun night and the V-Rex burger was amazing.
They also have the C-Rex (chicken) and B-Rex (beef) burger. For just £25pp you get to watch the movie with headphones, enjoy a burger, choice of fries, onion rings and a milkshake with unlimited toppings, with a few drinks included.
If you fancy joining the cinema club to experience it yourself then visit Byron Hamburgers. The next Birmingham event dates are 24th April and 22nd May.
2. Celebrate Hanami at Wagamama

If you love Instagrammable restaurants in Birmingham with flower installations, then you may want to visit Wagamama at the Bullring to celebrate Hanami. Hanami is a traditional Japanese celebration where they enjoy the beauty of the Cherry blossom tree.
So, to admire the beautiful floral installation I attended the launch night and took part in an Origami Masterclass and enjoyed some delicious Japanese food.
For starters, I and fellow Birmingham based bloggers indulged in the vegan yasai steamed gyoza, wok-fried greens and edamame with chilli and kare burosu for mains paired with Japan's No.1 beer Asahi.
If you love Japanese cuisine, the popular chain is one of the top-rated places to eat Asian food in Birmingham.

Anyone for happy hour? I’m sure you’ll all agree with me when I say happy hour is the place to be on a Sunday when its 2 for £8 all day in Bodega We visited the South American restaurant in Birmingham to try out their vegetarian and vegan food offering.
We ate House Nachos & Refried Beans for starters, Peruvian Quinoa Chaufa and Halloumi burger for mains and Spicy Rice and Colombian Papas Chorreadas for our sides. The cantina has cool vibrant interiors and a great atmosphere to spend time with chums and enjoy a few cocktails, with it being a great place for happy hour cocktails in Birmingham.
If you can’t make it on a Sunday, then Happy Hour also takes place Monday – Saturday 4 pm till 7 pm and then again 10 pm till closing time.

There’s just something about afternoon tea that I adore, cute finger sandwiches with a variety of sweet treats and not to forget piling the cream and jam up high on warm scrumptious scones while trying to elegantly sip on a glass of Champagne.
To mark the new season, Browns Brasserie have launched an Afternoon Tea in Birmingham as well as a new Spring menu and cocktail offering using all fresh seasonal ingredients. The new dishes consist of Asparagus, Pea & Mint Soup, Burrata, Rainbow Beetroot, Carpaccio, Camembert, Scallops with Rhubarb & Pancetta for starters. As well as the afternoon tea I've also tried a few dishes from the impressive Browns vegan menu.
Of course, no dining experience is complete without indulging into something sweet, so they have also added Apple & Apricot Crumble and Rhubarb Trifle to the dessert menu and Springtime Bramble, Apricot Club, Elderflower Spritz, Kiwi Crush and Blood Orange Royale to their seasonal cocktail list.
We enjoyed a visit to the Bullring restaurant and had afternoon tea for two with optional Champagne, gin or just tea and coffee. It’s available between 3-5pm every day.

This year as a Mother’s Day experience gift idea, my Mum and I went to see Respect - The Aretha Franklin Songbook at the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham courtesy of Groupon. If we had purchased the tickets directly then they would have cost £30/£40 but when booking through Groupon they were only £21/£28.
So, whenever you plan to do a fun activity, book a Birmingham hotel stay, a UK getaway or restaurant experience always check to see if there is a discounted deal on Groupon first.
There are so many fantastic experiences listed so it's well worth checking out to save some money. As you can search by location, you’ll find so many fun thing’s to do in Birmingham and in the process discover smaller local businesses too.

Last week I celebrated 100 years of the Negroni cocktail with Martini at The Canal House in Birmingham. My sister and I will use any excuse to catch up with a good cocktail and food to enjoy the evening, so we experienced the self-pouring MARTINI Negroni Fountain with aperitivo bites - the hummus here is still amazing btw!
As you may know from my previous post when I enjoyed the selfie Martinis at The Canal House a few weeks back along with some live music playing at the bar which was a lovely surprise.
The fountain’s bull head replicates water fountains placed around the city of Turin, the birthplace of Martini so it's a fun way to enjoy the beloved cocktail and be your own bartender!
The beer garden at The Canal House is also perfect for dining alfresco in Birmingham this summer.
7. Indulge in bottomless brunch at Dirty Martini

Weekends are made for Brunchin. So, I was excited to try out the new Bottomless Brunch at Dirty Martini, known as one of the most Instagrammable bars in Birmingham. On a Saturday afternoon I visited to try the vegetarian option but there is also a meat version available.
The veggie brunch includes bottomless Martinis & Prosecco with Cheese and Basil Arancini, Vegetable Sushi, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Korean Samosas, Halloumi & Hummus Wrap, Wonton & Paprika Crisps and Sweet Potato Chips presented in a birdcage.
The brunch is available on Saturday at 12.30pm or 2.30pm and every Sunday at 12.30pm, 2.30pm or 4.30pm and costs £30pp. If you love indulging in brunch as much as me than there are other bottomless brunch places in Birmingham to try out too.
8. Experience the new pizza place in town

Love pizza? Of course, you do! There’s a new pizza place just opened in Bullring & Grand Central so I couldn’t resist visiting, seen as pizza is my ultimate comfort food of choice. But, luckily this independent food place in Birmingham have a niche offering where the pizzas are fresh, light, a lot healthier and made right in front of you with as much or as little toppings as you wish.
The way you order food from at.Pizza, is just like Subway. I went with a sourdough base topped with vegan cheese with a mixture of tomato and BBQ sauce and as many veggies as possible with sprinkles of chilli flakes and it is cooked and ready to eat in just 90 seconds.
They also have a great selection of sugar free sodas including peach & honey, mango & blood orange and apple & bramble that are refillable as well as some amazing ice cream sundaes.
9. Try an authentic German wurst

If you aren’t in the mood for pizza, then how about a hot dog? opposite you’ll find the new Herman ze German stall in Grand Central - nearby Not Dogs another independent vegan food place in Birmingham.
They have a variety of sausages and sides to choose from. Although they currently only have meaty sausages on the menu, don’t worry they have vegan options too just ask.
So, we went for the ‘vegan wurst’ in a roll lined with crispy onions and jalapenos at the bottom. We obviously had to have fries too; these were sprinkled with paprika and tasted so good washed down with a refreshing fruity soda. Next time I’m going to try this meal with their curry sauce topping.
