9 Perfect Mother's Day Gifts & Experiences

Mother’s day gift guide

A box of chocolates and flowers from the supermarket don’t quite cut it nowadays. So, if you want to treat your Mum to something extra special this Mother’s Day I’ve put together a few experiences that you could enjoy with your mom as well as a few thoughtful and useful gift ideas that I’m sure will be more appreciated and last longer then gifts with a short life span. You may also find my luxury Gift guide for her helpful too.

Evening at the theatre

Physical gifts are lovely, but personally, I feel that sharing experiences and creating memories to look back on are worth so much more. This year I booked my Mum and me an evening at the theatre to see Respect - The Aretha Franklin Songbook at the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham. We've only ever been to the panto together when I was a lot younger, so this is an experience gift courtesy of Groupon that we really enjoyed because it was something new, different and fun for us to do!

However, if musicals aren't your mom’s thing then Groupon has a huge choice of discounted activities, there's something for everyone, including helicopter rides, go-karting and skydiving to name a few so that your Mom’s day doesn’t have to be an ordinary Mother’s Day, you can book something fun and extraordinary to do!

Laura Ashley Afternoon tea

The last time I went to the Laura Ashley Tearoom in Solihull, my Mom treated us all to afternoon tea to celebrate my graduation, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. So, to celebrate Mother’s Day, it was my turn to treat my Mom. But this time we experienced the new Vegan afternoon tea priced at just £20pp. The new vegan offering consists of scrumptious sandwiches made of dairy-free cheese & pickle, Hummus & roasted vegetable, Tomato & shallot chutney, and Avocado & lime crostini.

To sweeten thing’s up it comes with an assortment of cakes and scones accompanied with a choice of jam and delicious coconut cream. The scones and sandwiches are bottomless, so I requested a few more vegan cheese & pickle sandwiches because I just couldn’t get enough of them. We also chose from a selection of herbal teas; my favourite was the red berry & hibiscus flower. To have a closer look at the vegan afternoon tea, see my Facebook album or read my Laura Ashley review of the vegetarian and standard afternoon tea offering.

Vegan cocktails

It’s not very often my mom gets time to go out for cocktails at the weekend, especially on a night out with me. So recently we visited Dirty Martini in Birmingham to try out their five new vegan cocktails. I’ve been to the swanky new bar numerous times, so I knew she’d love it! We tried the ‘pink garden’, ’24 carrot gold’, ‘the green mile’ and the ‘lemon & ginger collins’. They were all gorgeous, my favourite was the pink garden made with gin, pomegranate, raspberries and citrus while my moms were the green mile consisting of vodka, almond milk, coconut and matcha. To have a closer look at the vegan cocktails, see my Facebook album.

Natural skin-loving skincare

Just like me, my mom is always seeking natural clean skincare products, that are not only proven to be better for the skin but are also kinder to the environment and provide noticeable results when it comes to anti-ageing. Novexpert is a French cosmetic brand who have recently launched in the UK, they use only 100% natural skin-loving ingredients and don’t contain any unnecessary harmful chemicals or preservatives. In fact, their products are 100% hypoallergenic so are claimed to be safe on all skin types, which is great news considering my skin is so sensitive.

Novexpert is vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and are biodegradable. The effective skincare formulas have been designed by expert doctors and researchers in the skincare industry and have been inspired by the latest advances in anti-ageing medicine.

I’ve been using the Booster Serum with Hyaluronic Acid and the Booster serum with vitamin C for the past month, and I’m absolutely in love with my new skincare regime. Just one bottle of Hyaluronic Acid is the equivalent of 20 pure hyaluronic acid injections, making it the highest concentration of Hyaluronic Acid in the world. The HA serum helps to plump, moisturise and smooth skin while the vitamin C serum helps fight sun damage, deliver antioxidants, improve radiance and stimulate natural collagen and contains the highest concentration of vitamin C in a single serum.

The gift of time

Why not give the gift of time? with a minimalist yet functional watch that should suit the majority of your mamma’s wardrobe. This Accurist Milanese silver stainless steel watch (currently £64) from Debenhams is a great investment piece and will add style and elegance to an outfit without breaking the bank. To make the watch feel extra special, it would be a lovely idea to have it engraved to give it a personalised and thoughtful touch.

Monthly Gin Subscription

During the week after a long day at work, my Mom’s evenings are complete with a small glass of gin in front of the telly. So, if your Mum is anything like mine then a monthly subscription to Craft Gin Club may just be the perfect gift. For £40 a month, you’ll receive a full-size bottle of gin, a couple of mixers and some sweet and savoury snacks. Every month is a different theme and comes with a glossy Ginned magazine.

Anti-grey hair treatment

To reverse time why not gift the Phyto RE30 Anti-grey hair treatment . This makes the perfect gift for a mature woman in your life. At first, they may be offended, but I’m sure secretly they’ll be over the moon especially when they start to see results. The Phyto RE30 is backed by 6 years of scientific research and is made of 98% natural ingredients.

It helps boost the hair’s natural pigmentation process to protect it against depigmentation. Youthful hair can also experience depigmentation if it gets bleached and coloured often, so it’s not just for grey hair. The RE30 also has a beautifying action, with its purple tulip extract that helps to strengthen hair by acting on proteins located at the heart of the hair fibre, which is essential to its structure, to ensure better connections between keratins.
