Shopping challenge at Birmingham Airport
Sian Victoria & Ally in Blunderland go head-to-head shopping for the best Christmas gifts in Birmingham Airport
Awhile ago Birmingham Airport reached out to me to ask if I would like to take part in their Christmas Gifting shop-off challenge with local Brummie blogger Ally from Ally in Blunderland. Of course, I said yes, and two weeks ago we visited the airport and went head-to-head purchasing gifts for our family, with a camera crew in tow. You may have seen my 'World Duty Free - #JetSetTour event' blog post in the summer, where World Duty Free spoilt us with beauty treatments, fizz, and amazing beauty gifts, well that was such a fab day, so I was really looking forward to having a shopping spree at Birmingham Airport again to take advantage of the great duty free savings available in the terminal.
As a travel blogger, I have used Birmingham airport twice this year when I was jetting off to China and Santorini and last year when I went to Spain, so I always look forward to wandering around the great range of shops and food places within the terminal before catching my flight. As you can see from my World Duty Free #JetSetTour event post, there are some great travel exclusive items that are not available on the high-street.
On the day of filming, three lovely marketing ladies and three cameramen followed me and Ally around in the terminal as we searched for gifts for our mom, dad, sister and boyfriend, our challenge was to buy gifts for our family members up to the value of £150. Plus we had to buy two of everything, so you lucky readers can win the fab gifts too!
I'm really uncomfortable in front of the camera, so I have been cringing at the thought of watching the video. Luckily I had Ally the pro vlogger by my side, you can watch a short clip of the behind the scenes I posted on Twitter, or visit Birmingham Airport to watch the full video.
Birmingham Airport has a great range of shops within the terminal, you can find JD Sports, Pandora, Victoria Secret, Hugo Boss, Furla & Tumi, Next, and Boots as well as many others.
The night before filming I got my family to search the shops online to find out what they wanted, so I was organised and knew exactly what I needed to get within the 1 hour we were given for the challenge. If I was shopping for myself I would have bought everything Ally got, she certainly has the best gifts. However, I was successful at buying everything on my list and bought everything well under the hour, thanks to the very helpful staff within the stores who found the items for me after showing them the screen shots on my mobile that my family sent.
The Benefit Blushin Babe set is for my mom and was bought from World Duty Free for £25.00. The set contains They're Real Mascara & Push-up liner, Watt's up highlighter, Coralista face powder, Hoola bronzing powder, Dandelion brightening face powder and Rockateur cheek powder. It's such a lovely set, my mom has tried to get me to give it her early, but I haven't given in yet so it's hidden away until Christmas day ha.
Next up is the Diesel Bad Eau De Toilette 50ml I bought for my dad from World Duty Free, it was £34.76. On the high street it's £44.00, so I made a great saving of £9.24!
As my boyfriend's ass broke his last headphones, I got him these Sony noise cancelling headphones from the Dixons Travel store for £29.92. If you're an organised shopper like me, you can reserve products on the Dixons Travel and World Duty Free website and then collect them before you fly, which is super helpful.
And finally I got this stylish tan croc handbag from Accessorize for my sister, it was £32.00. Overall the four gifts came to £121.68, so I spent under the £150 budget we were set, so it just shows you can pick up some great savings from shopping in the airport where you can take advantage of duty free.
After filming we were treated to delicious food at Giraffe, you can also find All Bar One, Pret, Frankie & Benny's, Wetherspoons and Joe & the Juice etc within the departure lounge.
Although on the morning of filming, my train was delayed twice and I ripped my tights #GirlProblems, The shop-off challenge was fun and my family are really happy with the gifts, so thank you Birmingham Airport as I no longer have to stress about what I am getting people this year.
